SAS Staff (School) News, October 10

10 October 2005

ENROLMENT FORM BANS LIFTED

The SAAS Staff Newsletter of 29 August advised members of the PSA Schools Departmental Committee resolution to place a ban on the processing of school enrolment forms until the PSA and DET meet to discuss problems with the forms and DET agrees to allocate additional staff resources for the input of the data on the OASIS systems.

DET has advised its agreement to the provision of additional resources and discussions are taking place on the amount of additional hours that are needed. In light of this members are instructed to LIFT the bans on enrolment forms. Advice will be given ASAP on additional resources to be made available.

ESTABLISHMENT OF SCHOOL SUPPORT OFFICER POSITION

Further discussions have taken place on the establishment of School Support positions. The PSA maintained that all schools and centres have workload issues and so they should all be allocated a SSO position. The Department has removed the provision that the "positions would only be allocated to schools where a SAS Staff members does First Aid duties." The PSA is to receive a further proposal from the Department very shortly.

The amount of funds available for allocation of the positions is $8 million. Spread across all schools this funding would provide approximately ½ day per week for each school.

INTERNAL ADVERTISMENT OF SAS STAFF VACANCIES

The PSA was concerned that a number of vacancies had not been listed in any of the three rounds of internal advertising. We asked the Department to examine this and received the following advice:

There were 262 SAS positions which were identified at the commencement of the Long Term Temp process in Term 1, 2005, and which were not advertised in rounds 1, 2 or 3. They are:

  • 19 School Administrative Manager
  • 8 Aboriginal Education Assistant
  • 3 Teachers Aide Preschool
  • 65 Teachers Aides Special
  • 167 Administrative Officer

These will be advertised in early term 4. SAS Staff who were eligible to apply under rounds 1, 2 and 3 will be eligible to apply internally for these positions.

In addition 70 School Administrative Manager positions will be advertised externally.

TEACHERS AIDE ETHNIC PERMANENCY

Positions in IEC's in a variety of language groups will be advertised internally amongst IEC"s only for permanent appointment.

SCHOOLS RECOGNITION WEEK

Schools Recognition Week commences on 17 October. Information kits have been forwarded to all schools. Members are encouraged to read the information and participate.
