Home Campaign Bulletins TAFE/DET
False info at Northern Sydney TAFE03 April 2006The PSA understands that inaccurate and misleading information is being distributed about the NSI Library Review. This information claims that there are no position descriptions in existence for the proposed positions and no evidence that the new Library Award job level descriptors are being used to classify job grades. This is totally incorrect. Draft PD's/SOD's have been developed specifically taking into account these new award descriptors and have been circulated to the library staff for their considered comments and suggestions as part of the consultative process negotiated with the Northern Sydney Institute. The proposed structure has also been discussed with the Steering Committee which included PSA representation as well as at the NS ICC meeting a couple of weeks ago. PSA officers and the elected PSA delegate for NSI attended meetings organised by the Institute for all library staff where staff were given over a week to send back their feedback and suggestions on the proposed structure to the Steering Committee and Institute management. At this meeting the PSA Organiser addressed the members and advised that any concerns members had re the proposed restructure should also be forwarded to either Irene Macbeth or the NSI delegate. These concerns on their behalf will be raised with the Institute management. To date no members have contacted the PSA with issues re the restructure. The PSA also understands a certain party is stating that the NSI restructure should be stopped and that the PSA will take the Institute to the NSW Industrial Relations Commission. There are no grounds for a dispute on this matter. The consultation process is ongoing and the PSA has an elected delegate on the Steering Committee so we cannot go to the Commission for the alleged lack of consultation. The PSA has also been informed that the PD's contain the appropriate award descriptors for the position grading and as stated earlier members have not contacted the PSA to state otherwise so we do not know on what grounds we could possibly lodge a dispute. In fact the Institute are utilising the correct policies and procedures for the restructure re "Potentially displaced, displaced, direct appointments where necessary, etc." so the Industrial Relations Commission would most probably dismiss our 'dispute'. Again, the PSA reiterates, any member who has concerns or issues re this library restructure please contact either Bob Rutherford (your elected delegate) or Irene Macbeth and we will take these to management.
