Wage Anomaly

For many years there have been anomalies in the pay rates of full-time and part time General Assistants in schools which have resulted in full-time G/As being disadvantaged in terms of remuneration. The problem has again come into focus following the agreement between the DET and the PSA which resulted in some 500 part-time G/As mainly employed under the cluster scheme being granted permanency.

The PSA General Assistants Working Party has with the help of head office, requested that this anomaly be fixed. To date a submission to the DET has been sent, and a meeting is scheduled for early May to discuss the proposal. The PSA's position on this is that no GA will be disadvantaged.

Asset Management

The DET have released a 100-day process report of the ongoing asset maintenance reform. This is available for viewing on request.

One of the recommendations made at the original workshop was the establishment of a working party to examine the role of the General Assistant in schools in relation to site management. It was expected that the PSA would be strongly represented on the working party. Members will be kept informed of all developments.

Workload Survey

Attached below is a survey. At the last General Assistants working party there was discussion arising from the working party suggesting that a number of GA are expected to carry out duties that are not in the Statement of Duties.

Please be reminded that a GA can be requested to do related duties as it is within the scope of the GA role. Anything unrelated cannot be asked of a GA.

Once filled in the survey should be returned to the PSA head office by fax or mail:
