NSW Lotteries Bargaining June 2008 Update

30 June 2008

Since early 2007, the PSA has been meeting with NSW Lotteries to discuss pay increases and updating your conditions of employment.

However the implementation of the State Government's Wages Policy at NSW Lotteries has caused significant delay.

NSW Lotteries were finalising a proposal in December 2007 the PSA was not provided with the detail of this proposal until 22 May 2008. The delay was a result of the approval processes required under the Wages Policy.

The delay has caused significant concern to the PSA as members will be disadvantaged if this matter is not resolved soon. Consequently the PSA notified a dispute in the NSW Industrial Relations Commission in an effort to have the matter resolved as quickly as possible.

NSW Lotteries offer as presented to the PSA in May is for a 3% salary increase in exchange for a number of changes to your existing conditions of employment.

Some of the proposed trade-offs include:

  • Alteration of sick leave accrual from a total of 15 days per annum to 10 days per annum.
  • Removal of the provision for the re crediting of leave where an employee falls ill whilst on recreation or extend ed leave.
  • Removal of quarter flex days.
  • Overtime to commence from 7pm on weekdays. (Clause 10.3)
  • Minimum payment for overtime to be 30 minutes, rather than 15 minutes.
  • Deletion of the forklift allowance
  • Restricted access to flex leave

The list of trade-offs proposed by NSW Lotteries is unacceptable to the PSA and we hope to have the matter resolved through our dispute in the NSW Industrial Relations Commission.

Industrial Relations Commission On the 24th of June 2008 a hearing was held at the Industrial Relations Commission regarding your wages case.

The PSA and NSW Lotteries agreed to meet to try to negotiate agreement before next month.

The PSA will be doing everything it can to get you a pay rise as soon as possible.

Should negotiations fail, the matter is scheduled to be back in the Commission on the 22nd of July 2008.

During the hearing NSW Lotteries indicated that they may have issues with the validity of the NSW Industrial Relations Commission's role in this matter.

However the PSA maintains that the Referral Agreement we secured from NSW Lotteries last year enables us to have this and other disputes resolved by the State Commission.
