Future of proposed CDEP related employment

Executive, 25 February 2008

Decision

Report adopted

Report

As previously reported to the Executive, DET was discussing with the PSA picking up funding for people employed under CDEP funding to perform work in NSW Public Schools.

To "pick up" CDEP funding DET proposed the creation of a new classification of Teachers Aide Aboriginal.

The PSA could not see how the work outlined in the proposed statement of duties differed from the work of the current classifications of Teachers Aide Special and Aboriginal Education Assistant. DET had no response to PSA concerns about allocation of TAA time or transfer rights, if any, for the new classification.

DET has indicated they are determined to push this proposal through despite PSA objections The DET position on this issue is particularly galling in light of their refusal to properly fund and fill existing Aboriginal Education Assistant positions.
