Teachers Aide name change

"That the Executive agree, subject to member agreement, to a change to the Crown Employees (School Administrative and Support Staff) Award so that our members who work with students with disabilities or with language issues become known as School Learning Support Officers."

The PSA have been negotiating with the Department of Education and Training to achieve a change to the classification name of Teachers Aides. This is proposed to affect our members in schools who work with students with disabilities or with language issues.

The DET has written to the PSA to suggest the name 'School Learning Support Officers'. This name was suggested by PSA representatives some time ago.

The Association is presently consulting with members and with representatives on the PSA Special Education Working Group. Should they agree the DET will be notified that the new name is acceptable? The award will then be changed, by agreement, to reflect the change classification name.
