DCS new Program Facilitator positions

Executive, 28 April 2008

Decision

Report adopted

Report

The Department of corrective Services has issued a new proposal that seeks to introduce an unidentified number of new Program Facilitator positions that will run programs for offenders within both the c0ommunity and gaol settings. The PSA has a number of concerns regarding the proposal the first being the lack of detail provided so far. Additional concerns surround:

  • The proposed number of positions
  • Accommodation
  • Deletion of existing positions to fund the new proposal
  • OH&S concerns re: work practices
  • Ill defined reporting lines
  • Grading
Subsequent meetings were held and correspondence was exchanged. In response to this, a joint meeting between the PSA's Non Custodial Departmental Committee and the Probation and Parole Advisory Group occurred. After much discussion it was agreed that the proposal in its current form would be rejected. This was supported by a motion that requested specific information and further consultation.
