Closure of Sydney Visitor Centre, Sydney Airport

Executive, 26 May 2008

Decision

Report adopted

Report

The Association was advised that the Sydney Visitors Centre, Sydney Airport was to be closed.

A meeting of staff and PSA representatives was held on 8 May when management of DSRD announced the closure of the Sydney Visitor Centre, Sydney Airport effective from 20 May.

The reason put forward by management was Sydney Airport Authority's proposed relocation of the Visitor Centre and associated additional costs involved.

A meeting with members was held following the staff meeting and a number of strategies considered to ensure that members' interests were protected.

The Association has raised a number of concerns on behalf of the remaining permanent staff who are members. The Association was also involved in negotiating a severance package on behalf of temporary and casual staff.

This was an amazing decision taken by DSRD in view of forthcoming World Youth Day when it is anticipated that a large number of visitors to Sydney will require information and support formerly provided by the Sydney Visitor Centre, Sydney Airport.
