PSA submission to parental leave inquiry

The PSA has made a submission (attached below) to the Productivity Commission Inquiry into Paid Maternity, Paternity and Parental Leave today calling for:
- 28 weeks - a minimum 2 weeks paid support prior to the birth of the child and a minimum of 6 months paid support after the birth of the child
- a base salary provided by the government should be paid to all women, irrespective of whether they are casual, full time, part time, contractors or stay at home mums
- a system of wage replacement
- that the payments available to women should also be accessible to partners if they are acting as the primary carer of the child
- a minimum of 4 weeks paid support for partners which can be used concurrently with the other partner to provide support.
The submission was based on members' response to the PSA Paid Parental Leave Survey.
