Stop the Power Sell Off campaign expands its lobby list

19 June 2008

The electricity privatisation bills, Electricity Industry Restructuring Bill 2008 and the Community Infrastructure (Intergenerational) Fund Bill 2008, are still to be debated in the NSW Parliament.

Enough Labor MPs are expected to support Labor policy, which is to oppose the privatisation of the electricity industry, thus depriving the Iemma Government of it's usual majority. Consequently, Iemma is relying on Liberal and National support to pass their legislation.

The Liberals have set conditions, one of which is that the Auditor General report on the proposed privatisations before the privatisation bills are debated. Legislation allowing the Auditor General to make the necessary reports is currently (at June 19) before Parliament.

The Stop the Sell-Off Campaign continues to urge all opponents of privatisation to intensify their lobbying of Members of Parliament, either by ringing them, visiting them or emailing/faxing them.

A month ago we published a priority list of 14 Labor MPs plus Liberal Leader Barry O'Farrell.

We have now added more MPs, Liberal, National and Labor, to the priority list.

You can email the MPs on the priority list by using the template on the Stop the Sell-Off campaign website. You can amend the basic message as you wish. (Note: The camapign website is being upgraded soon.)

The MP's listed below include some who will oppose the sale, those that can be persuaded, and those that need to be shown where public support lies.

The new MPs on the priority list are:
